Fluid Masters Microsoft Windows Presentation Foundation in Six Weeks on The North Face™ Groundbreaking Kiosk

OJAI, CA (PRWeb) March 8, 2007 -- lynda.com events, Inc. features Darren David and Fluid's groundbreaking work on The North Face in-store kiosks at the D×3 Conference & Expo in Boston, May 15-18, 2007. David, a Senior Engineer at the San Francisco-based digital consultancy Fluid, will discuss the design and engineering tools and how his company used them to implement the first consumer-facing retail application deployed on Windows Vista. He will cover the process and experience of working with the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 to create the initial prototypes and continuing through the final deployment into stores of The North Face In-Store Explorer.

"He is an early adopter with a lot of great wisdom to pass on to other designers and developers looking to deploy Windows Vista desktop web-enabled apps. The goal of the project was to bring The North Face brand and catalog to life within a retail environment. The final product, The North Face In-Store Explorer, is a deeply integrated experience which uses Windows Vista and WPF to simultaneously show products as viewers experience how products function and see those same products in action. The WPF platform delivers layer upon layer of information to viewers using imagery, graphics, video, and sound.

"Our client wanted customers to explore the breadth of The North Face product offerings in context, and they wanted to do it through an interactive in-store experience," said Darren David, Senior Engineer, Fluid. "We had to figure out how to marry customers and content and bring it to life--it was about creating meaningful experiences. We couldn't create flexible, rapidly changing, deeply integrated content with imagery, video, and sound in the timeframe allowed without WPF."

Currently a Senior Engineer at Fluid, San Francisco's oldest digital consultancy, and a pioneer in the field of RIA development, Darren David built the first online SAT course in 1999. In a high-level presentation, Building The North Face Retail Kiosk, delivered in May at the D×3 Conference & Expo, David will cover every step of the process, focusing on triumphs and lessons learned along the way.
