Ascender Personality Kit Enhanced for Windows Mobile 5.0 Devices

Elk Grove Village, IL (PRWeb) March 23, 2007 -- Ascender Corporation, a leading provider of fonts for hardware & software developers, today announced a new version of the Ascender® Personality Kit™ for Windows™ Mobile 5.0 devices. The new version of the software can be embedded or installed into a mobile device so users can change how their smartphone looks and sounds. The Ascender Personality Kit is the first product to combine ringtones, themes, background images and fonts in matched sets with software that lets users select and apply them to their mobile device. The new version is targeted at handset manufacturers and wireless carriers to license as a value-add or promotional item.

The original Windows PC-based version of the software included over 50 pre-defined sets of "personalities", ranging from animals and holidays to places and sports, and required 65MB of storage space on a PC. The new device-based version includes 5 pre-defined sets of personalities and requires only 6.2MB of storage. The device-based version includes an OTA (Over The Air) feature that allows users to acquire additional sets of personalities with unique ringtones, backgrounds and themes directly from their mobile browser or from a connected PC.

"We had some great feedback from the first version, including a request for a device-based version that could be customized to meet the needs of wireless carriers and handset manufacturers " said Steve Kuhlman, Vice President of Ascender Corporation. "The new version provides an economical solution that lets users easily personalize how their Windows Mobile 5.0 device looks and sounds."

The Ascender Personality Kit software makes it easy to preview, select and install a new personality onto a phone. Each personality is pre-defined with a matching set of components that controls how a device looks and sounds: backgrounds, fonts, ringtones, and the colors of windows, controls, scrollbars, menus and dialogs. The user simply selects a category, then a personality, then applies it to the device.

The software supports the three Windows Mobile 5.0 devices on the market today:
- Pocket PC Phone (240x320 and 320x 240 displays)
- Smartphone with Portrait (240x320)
- Smartphone with Landscape (320x240) display

The original PC-based version of the software retails for $19.99 and is available as a software download from the Ascender website (http://www.ascendercorp.com/personalitykit.html) and other online resellers including Handango.com, pocketgear.com and smartphone.net.

The new device-based version is now available for licensing to handset manufacturers and wireless carriers to enhance their Windows Mobile 5.0 devices in a very cost-effective manner.
